The ideal time for the Adi Kailash trek is from June to September, as the temperature is pleasant and the monsoon has yet to begin, which can lead to landslides blocking the route.
Weather in Adi Kailash Trek
Summer: The summer months make June the optimal time for trekking to Adi Kailash. The sun heats up the chilly region of Adi Kailash, making it easier for trekkers to acclimate to the surroundings.
Monsoon: In the monsoon period, the route becomes slick and trekkers encounter significant challenges navigating through it.
Spring: September is the delightful spring season that is favorable for trekkers to journey to Adi Kailash. The pleasant sunshine and tranquil weather make it an ideal time for trekking.
Due to its striking similarity to Mount Kailash, Adi Kailash is also known as the ‘Chotta Kailash’ or ‘Little Kailash’. Standing at an impressive height of 6,191 meters, it is situated in India near the Indo-Tibetan border. The area surrounding the peak is serene, calming, and exceptionally picturesque. Nestled at the foot of this majestic peak lies a lake called Gaurikund which beautifully reflects Adi Kailash. Parvati Sarovar (also known as Manasarovar) is another lake near the peak; it is smaller than its namesake in Tibet. Along its shore stands a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Following China’s occupation of Tibet, Chotta Kailash has been revered as the closest and most esteemed alternative to Mt. Kailash.
During the Adi-Kailash Trek, one can marvel at Annapurna’s stunning snow-covered peaks, lush forests, numerous waterfalls, and the flowing Kali River. The trek also offers a delightful variety of wildflowers and fruits at Narayan Ashram among other attractions. Mount Adi Kailash and Parvati Sarovar hold ancient religious significance for Hindus in the Kumaon Himalayas.

On route, we will have our lunch and will reach our destination by evening. Dharchula is a tiny village surrounded by stunning hills in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand and lies close to the border of India and Nepal. The region is 3500 feet above sea level and the Kali River here divides the region in two halves. This place is called to be the entry point for treks to Adi Kailash and Kailash Mansarovar.

Travelers will also have an opportunity to visit the Old Pandav Fort and nearby local areas of the village.
An early journey to reach Adi Kailash will commence after everyone finishes their breakfast. To visit the Parvati Kund or Gauri Kund, either one needs to trek or take a horse for the visit. At the Parvati Kund, visitors may choose to take a holy dip in the sacred pond and also collect holy water in bottles to take back with them on their way home.
The main focus of today’s schedule will be on seeking inner peace through spending ample time in worship. It will take about one and a half hours to reach Jyolingkong, and after darshan, we will proceed towards our primary destination, which is Adi Kailash. After offering prayers here, we will go to Parvati Kund and worship at the Shiva Temple there. Our PM Narendra Modi visited Parvati Kund recently in October 2023 for meditation and rituals like homa and yagya. Don’t forget to seek blessings from the Lama priests of the temple and offer prayers at the sacred Gauri Kund.
After visiting the stunning and sacred sites of this pilgrimage, today we will begin preparing for our journey back. During our expedition, we visited several prominent locations such as Adi Kailash Parvat, Om Parvat, Parvati Kund, Kali Temple and numerous other destinations. On the return trip, we will need to reach Pithoragarh which will take approximately 9 hours.
