Nameri national park is one of Assam’s most picturesque national parks and it’s traversed throughout by river Jia Bhoroli. Situated on Assam’s eastern border, Nameri’s valley touches mountainous Arunachal on its east.
During our forest trekking we may spot some of wildlife’s most endangered species such as white winged wood duck, Sloth Bear, Tiger Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Sambar, Gaur, Indian Wild Dog, four varieties of Hornbill and many other avifauna species.
Nameri National Park is also renowned for its herds of elephants; it has a very high density elephant population where you may hear about instances of elephant attacks due to declining forests leading them to invade human inhabited villages.
Later in afternoon return back to wildlife resort for Lunch followed by leisure activities around or opt for Angling in River Jia Bhoroli where Golden Mahseer can be found – known as tiger fish there which is very popular among anglers with an annual competition held regularly at Jia Bhoroli every November in collaboration with Assam’s forest department.
Overnight stay at wildlife resort.
To start the day, we will partake in an exciting river rafting experience on Jia Bhoroli River. We will drive 25 kms from the resort to the river’s upstream, where we will enjoy downstream rafting on an inflatable raft. This presents an opportunity to observe numerous migratory waterfowl and, if fortunate, possibly catch sight of the Royal Bengal Tiger and Elephant on the riverbanks during the boat ride. The 13 km stretch of rafting is expected to take around three hours.
Following the river rafting excursion, we will return to the camp site for Lunch. After lunch, a nature trail along the reserve awaits us. Accompanied by knowledgeable forest guides and armed forest guards, these forest treks offer a prime opportunity to explore Nameri National Park up close and spot rare species such as white-winged wood ducks and great hornbills.
