Best Time to Visit Pindari Glacier Trek

Summer (Mid-March to Mid-June):

Perhaps the optimal time to embark on a trek as adventurers can effortlessly endure the climate.

Monsoon (Mid June- September): During the rainy season, the paths are inaccessible, and hikers should absolutely refrain from trekking during this time due to risks such as rain, landslides, and road closures that can make it challenging to navigate the route.

Spring (September to late October): Mild climate is what hikers can anticipate during the spring season.

Winter (October to Mid March): The temperature can plummet to as low as (-10) °C, therefore there is a possibility of snowfall, leading to road closures.

Where is the Pindari Glacier Trek?

Situated at an altitude of 3,353 meters above sea level in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, Pindari Glacier is the most easily accessible glacier in the Kumaon Himalaya. Covering an area of 3.2 km, Pindari Glacier is the sole source of the Pindari River, which merges with the Alaknanda at Karnaprayag in the Garhwal district. The path to reach the glacier leaves visitors amazed around every corner due to its stunning beauty and serenity. On the right side of the Pindari glacier lies Kafani glacier, positioned at a height of 386 m above sea level.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Delhi – Kathgodam (By Train) - Almora

In the morning, following a quick breakfast, proceed to the railway station and board an air-conditioned train bound for Kathgodam at 06:00 hrs. Arrive at Kathgodam by 11:20 hrs, where our guide will meet you and drive you to Almora in a jeep. Reach Almora by afternoon and check in to your hotel. Spend the evening exploring the area. Enjoy dinner and stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 : Almora - Loharkhet (130 Kms/2-3 Hrs) - Dhakuri (2680 Mts / 8844 Ft)

After breakfast in the morning, we will drive to Loharkhet and from there commence our trek to Dhakuri. It’s an 11 km trek on the first day, leading you into the heart of the Pindari valley and then a moderate ascent to Dhakuri. Upon arrival, set up camp for an overnight stay. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite.

Day 3 : Bageshwar - Loharkhet - Dhakuri (2680 mts/8844 ft)

Following a nutritious breakfast, we will transport you to Loharkhet, the beginning of our trek. Along this challenging 8 km hike, you will discover the valleys and ascend over rocky terrain. Upon reaching Dhakuri, set up your tents and prepare for dinner.

Day 4 : Dhakuri - Dwali (2575 mts/8498 ft)

Following breakfast, you will trek from Dhakuri to Dwali today, which will take 5-6 hours. As you cover the 11 km distance, the gushing sound of Pinder Ganga will persistently fill your ears. After crossing numerous log bridges and waterfalls, you will arrive at your day’s destination, Dwali. Dinner and overnight stay at the Dwali campsite.

Day 5 : Dwali - Phurkia (3206 mts/14300 ft)

Begin your day with a nutritious breakfast and prepare for a 5 km hike to Phurkia. This particular route is scenic, as you will be treated to stunning views of snow-covered peaks throughout the journey.

Day 6 : Phurkia - Pindari Glacier (3900 mts/12870 ft) – Dwali

Today requires an early departure as it is a round trip of 7 km. Reach the zero point, from where you can behold the awe-inspiring beauty of the Pindari glacier. Along the way, you will traverse through verdant Pindari Valley. Afterward, return to Dwali for an overnight stay at the campsite and enjoy dinner.

Day 7 : Dwali – Khati - Dhakuri

On the seventh day, you will descend on foot for approximately 6-7 hours, covering a distance of 19 km, from Dwali to Dhakuri. Enjoy dinner and spend the night in the tents or rest house.

Day 8 : Dhakuri - Loharkhet - Song - Bageshwar

Start the day with breakfast and prepare for a 13 km downhill hike to Bageshwar through Loharkhet and Song. Upon reaching there, you will be taken to a hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 9 : Bageshwar – Kathgodam (190 kms/7-8 hrs) - Delhi

Following breakfast, return to Kathgodam by car through Almora. Upon arrival, you will be taken to the train station, where you can board the 08:30 PM train to Delhi. The journey will take place overnight.

Day 10 : Arrive Delhi

After reaching Delhi, the Pindari Glacier Trek adventure concludes.
